A powerful conductor, Redstone was discovered on the planet of Arcturus III by Aria Shadewood. Aria and Alban Pahlke used Redstone to power what few devices they had while stranded on the world.
Although useful in a tight spot, Unrefined Redstone Power is not as effective as Electrical Power, usually requiring more redstone generators than electrical generators to power a certain device. However, when refined, Redstone generators can produce as much power as fossil fuels, but purified redstone (which is rather light, molecularly) can also be used as fuel for fusion reactors, resulting in a 3%-4% increase in power output, due to the energized nature of the purified redstone.
